HEART OF THE METTA SUTTA

A blue iris for you!
All services of Blue Iris Sangha end with group recitation of the following excerpt from the Metta Sutta. Before the recitation, participants who wish to do so are given the opportunity to mention specific concerns -- frequent things that are mentioned include someone who is sick, someone who has lost a loved one, and the people and other beings caught in some catastrophe of nature or war.

May all beings be happy and safe,
and may their hearts
be filled with joy.

May all beings live
in security and peace --

whether weak or strong,
large or small,
near or far away,
visible or invisible,
already born
or yet to be born --

May all of them dwell
in perfect tranquility.
